More Action-Sports Shots,
by Matt Polito ...

This Wayne Rider page is meant to be of interest to recreational photographers, UHP photographers, as well as continuing the saga of Wayne's summer activities with Kawasaki for our super-bike enthusiasts. The photos and techniques on this page are provided compliments of Mr. Matt Polito, the world famous action-sports photographer. Matt also shot the pictures for Kawasaki you saw on Wayne's previous page.

Matt sent us these three photos that he prepared for us. He set them at smaller file size than the originals, they run about 62kb to 67kb to accomodate our visitors who use dial-up connections. On the previous page I cropped landscape from the edges of the photos and increased the compression on the photos we got from Kawasaki. In doing so, we sacrifice some image quality, for which we apologize to those of you with a discerning eye for photo quality.

Matt tells us that for most of his work he uses a Canon EOS-IV and shoots 35mm slide film, has the roll professionally developed, then the photos scanned. He uses either Fuji 100 Professional Reverse-Process Film, or Kodak E100S films.

For most of his work Matt uses a 70-200mm Canon lens, because he likes the longer focal lengths. He also has a Canon 300 prime lens that he uses with a Canon 1.4 converter which extends the lens focal length by 1.4 times, effectively a focal length of 420 on his 300 prime. On his action shots Matt likes to use a shutter speed of at least 1/500-sec or faster, depending on the available light.

Matt started using digital photography this year, and for his digital he uses a Canon EOS D60, which also multiplies the focal length by 1.6 times over the film camera. Matt used his Canon D60 Digital Camera for the images on this page.*

Matt has provided these extra shots to show Wayne and the Kawasaki AMA/Prostar- Funnybike crew on location.

Thanks, Matt, we appreciate you sharing your photos and techniques with us!

Wayne and crew starting Steves bike, Chip Ellis riding, The Burnout, Chip Ellis riding Chip Ellis reading the 'Christmas Tree in true championship reaction time' * The new offerings in the digital-camera market are dizzying to say the least. If you have been considering 'going digital' this amateur recommends a comparative resource such as   PC Photo   as well as manufacturer websites such as   Canon,   Kodak,   Olympus,   Fuji,   Nikon,   Pentax,   Toshiba,   Casio,   and others. Remember also that computer software with camera-to-computer links are required to download digital images from your camera to your computer so you can turn them into photos for printing or posting. I recommend that beginners make sure the software and physical connector comes packaged with the camera for compatibility concerns.
Best of luck in your research! Old Bear
