   Motor Vehicle Accident Requirements

After The Crash

You've just been involved in a car crash, what now?

Nobody plans on it happening and no body wants it to happen. But it happens, and it happens a lot. Ok, so now what? What should you do? Are there laws that require you to do certain things?

This PSA has been posted as a guide. This guide does not include absolutely everything that you should do, but it will help. If you would like to read the actual state statutes regarding motor vehicle accidents please refer to Utah Code Annotated 41-6-29 through 41-6-42

So, with that out of the way, here are some of the things you should do if you are involved in a motor vehicle accident:

1. STOP! You are required to stop at the scene of the accident, or as close to it as possible. DO NOT LEAVE THE SCENE!

2. Render reasonable assistance to any person injured in the accident.

3. Notify the Police. State law requires that you call the Police if there are any INJURIES or if there is property damage to an apparent extent of $1,000.00 or more.

4. Provide your name, address, drivers license and vehicle registration number to the other parties involved. You should also have your insurance information readily available.
