Eric Ellsworth

Trooper Ellsworth joined the Utah Highway Patrol in September, 2009. He was initially assigned to Green River, where he spent the first two years of his career. After accepting a transfer to Box Elder County, Trooper Ellsworth and his family moved to Brigham City. Late in the evening on November 18, 2016, Trooper Ellsworth was dispatched to a low-hanging power line on SR-13 near Garland. Concerned that passing commercial vehicles would strike the line and pull down the power poles, he positioned his patrol car to illuminate the power line. When a southbound commercial vehicle came into the area, Trooper Ellsworth flagged down the driver and stopped him immediately prior to the power line. As Trooper Ellsworth was speaking to the driver of the commercial vehicle, he was struck by a northbound passenger car. He was transported to the hospital, where he remained in extremely critical condition for four days until his passing on November 22, 2016.
